CARS - land

I remember seeing the news release that came out a few years ago, announcing the building of the new Cars-land in Disneyland.  While there weren't many particulars announced at first, the release did mention a driving-based thrill ride would be the jewel of the new land.

Obviously we now know what the thrill-ride will be - Radiator Springs Racers, but.

If I was an Imagineer...

the Radiator Springs Racers in my mind, was a little bit different then what is currently being developed (I think!?), and that's OK.

I envisioned being able to ride in my favorite Cars characters, each one represented as a ride vehicle, the premise being - it is the annual race-day in Radiator Springs, and it is time to crown the new Champion.  All of the ride vehicles would pull into the load area in a one-behind-the-other manner, kind of like a roller coaster.

However, after leaving the loading area the vehicles would split up as they headed towards the start line.  At the start line all of the vehicles are lined up evenly revving their engines.  On 'GO!' each of the cars head out onto the course weaving in and out of turns, tunnels, dips, etc....rather maniacally.

Each character has it's own 'Special Move' that they will use in an attempt to pick up speed and beat the other vehicles.  For instance:

Mater's Tornader: Mater goes into a funnel rock formation, hooks his towing hook onto a central chimney rock formation, and whips around the funnel a few times, before careening off down the road

Sarge's Shortcut: Sarge, the experienced outdoors man, does not need to stick to the road, he can go bumping and mudding directly over hills and rocks, no need to take the long way around.

Eventually each vehicle would end up on the final straight, at about the same time, for a perfect photo finish.  The great part about this type of attraction, is that you would want to ride every single vehicle, and because each vehicle takes a different route, the fun just would not end.

Each vehicle would have video monitors and a soundtrack, so the characters can keep in contact with their passengers, and the other vehicles. Possibly showing videos of what the 'Special Move' looks like from the outside, and with a race monitor, showing where each vehicle is, and who's in the lead.

Can you think of more 'Special Moves?'
