D23 Convention Predictions Too

So Nick gave us a post of the things he hopes to see announced at this years D23 convention, and I have decided to both offer my comments on the items he has brought up, as well as my own hopes for announcements here.

I think my largest hope and dream would have to be an update to Hollywood Studios.  This park seems to have stalled, and has just been a conundrum to me personally.  (Let's be honest...it's got lots of great attractions, but no unifying theme. I wrote about that problem here. -Nick)

Hollywood Studios seems to have the highest of the highs and lowest of the lows when it comes to attractions.  For lows I submit: Sounds Dangerous - Starring Drew Carey, The Great Movie Ride, and the Back Lot Tours, for  highs, check out: the Rockin' Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, and Lights Motors Action Stunt Show (I also love Toy Story Mania! -Nick).

So what do I think will be announced (Please note that I am literally guessing and making things up as I go along here)?

1 - An expansion of Pixar Place with the addition of several new shows and attractions all centered around Pixar characters. Nick says that there is a Monsters Inc Coaster, then I say let there be a coaster.  I think an interesting concept would be to change the Great Movie Ride over to the Great Pixar Movie Ride.  Perhaps they could integrate a number of Pixar movies into the show, or even creating an ever changing series of dark rides that make you feel as if you are IN the movie (kind of like the Monster's Inc Dark Ride in Disneyland).

2 - I think the Back Lot tour has finally met its maker.  Because the Lights Motors Action Stunt Show essentially knocked out 50%, if not more, of the Back Lot Tour (not to mention this place isn't a working studio anymore), the tour should officially be closed (Remember when the BLT was the Studios' headline attraction, and took upwards of 2 hours to go through the whole thing? -Nick).  Perhaps once the BLT is closed, they will find a permanent home for the Lights Motors Action stunt Show, instead of a seemingly temporary position in the middle of  no man's land, at the back of the park (Another of those attractions that was supposed to be "temporary" -Nick).

3 - This one is ridiculous, but, in the expansion of Pixar Place, perhaps they will reopen the animation studio aspect of the original MGM Studios and show Pixar A\animators at work, performing tasks for new and upcoming projects.  There is really no reason they COULDN'T do this, but there are also a billion reasons they shouldn't (starting with the fact that John Lasseter is such a California boy, there's no way he's moving east. -Nick).  I would not mind watching these people work for a little while during my day.

4 - I love the Indiana Jones Stunt Show. That being said, it has literally not changed since it opened (and that's not even an exaggeration. I was 6 the first time I saw this show. -Nick).  I would love to see an updated version of the show, perhaps incorporating the new movie?

5 - I have focused too much on MGM (jesus Mike, time to let that one go! It's Hollywood Studios now! -Nick), so lets change places.  Let's go to Animal Kingdom, where Nick commented that the Beastly Kingdom was DOA.  For those that don't know, Beastly Kingdom was supposed to go where Camp Minnie Mickey currently is, and was supposed to be dedicated to mythical animals, which is why the Animal Kingdom logo contains a dragon (I didn't know this before today, I had to ask Nick).  Well I think there may be some Beastly Kingdom type news announced at the D23 convention.  Perhaps the new Pixar film Brave, which is centered around the Celts of the Highlands, will contain some mythical type creatures; and a new experience will be announced based on these characters (Interesting idea! I hadn't thought of Brave. -Nick).

6 -  For One Man's Dream, the Walt Disney attraction in Hollywood Studios, (which is sponsored by D23) they will announce the addition of the One Man's Dream lounge, available only for D23 members to cool off and  sit and relax while in the park.  The D23 lounge will offer 50's styling and offer VIP tours through the One Man's Dream attraction (God, I would love this. Please make this happen. Make me feel like I get something for my $76 a year besides a magazine and some patches).

7 - We usually focus on WDW and not Disneyland, but I think there will be more expansion news for the Disneyland park.  They are updating and redoing the hotels there, just completing a huge remodel of California Adventure and the Carsland, and I don't think they're done.  I think we will see a California water park, taking the best that Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach have to offer, and incorporate new ride technologies to have one of the best water parks in the country, on par with Schlitterbahn in Texas!

8 - They are making a LOST attraction, and I have detailed what it will be like in previous posts.

Pie in the sky- what they won't be announcing -

No way there will be a new park in WDW
No way will there be any new transportation announcements (no monorails, no new cruise ships)
No way are they going to start building the EPCOT that Walt always envisioned (although that would be cool)
No way are they going to actually put in an airport
No way are they going to make the Kingdom Keepers into movies (too much behind the scenes action) (Although...not to add fuel to this rumor, but Ridley Pearson is scheduled to appear this year, and has promised that he and Disney would be making a "special announcement"... -Nick)
No way are they going to give me an honorary Club 33 membership for one day (but I'd be willing to take it)
Not way am I going to get to stay in the Dream Suite tonight.
